Systems Analysis

Selected projects applying quantitative methods to environmental and energy systems.

Drivers of Northern Cardinal Distribution in Michigan

Identified environmental and anthropogenic factors associated with Northern Cardinal abundance across Michigan’s 83 counties.

Methods: Geospatial analysis, county-level aggregation, linear regression, model comparison

Tools: R (sf, terra), ArcGIS Pro, Tableau

Data: eBird, PRISM, NLCD, Michigan GIS and population data

My Contributions: Research design and variable selection; data acquisition, processing, and integration; statistical analysis; visualization; and final presentation.

Power System Modeling and Uncertainty Analysis

Developed a simplified economic dispatch model of the Texas electricity system (ERCOT) to compare generation-capacity scenarios and examine uncertainty in natural-gas and solar capacity factors.

Methods: Linear and mixed-integer linear programming, economic dispatch modeling, Monte Carlo simulation, scenario analysis.

Tools: Python, Pyomo, NumPy, GLPK, Excel, R, Tableau.

Data: EIA 860M generator inventory, ERCOT hourly electricity demand, NREL weather-based renewable resource data.

My Contributions: Independently developed and tested an economic dispatch model, prepared energy datasets, evaluated generation scenarios, and analyzed uncertainty and model limitations.
